I tried posting this on r/learnpython and then I remembered this board MITx 6.00.1x is 9 weeks long and starts on the 19th of Feb, MITx 6.00.2x is also 9 weeks long but it starts on the 5th of March. Which clearly means I will be taking two courses at the same time for a little while. I'm taking these courses as a stepping stone to get to the xSeries certificate, and yes I'm fully aware that aside from social proof it serves no purpose academically. For those who have taken these courses before? How viable is this? I already skimmed the suggested text book and I have a good feeling about my ability to handle the workload, but I would like to hear from you. I'm likely going to have to do this as well. Your post made me realize that the only way that is currently listed of getting that xSeries, is to catch up with the people who did 6.00.1x last year. The second course doesn't have anything listed past the March 5 class as being planned.
It, in theory, should be possible. The classes were originally a single course. It would help if you already have some experience in Python as 6.00.2x assumes that you took the first course already. They are estimating about 27 hours a week if you are doing both classes. I'm hoping my previous experience in Python and programming in general will knock that down significantly.

I signed up for 2x as well. After getting an overview of the lectures for section 1x, I think my prior Python knowledge will help me tackle both sections while they overlap.

1x doesn't accelerate too quickly, so my advice would be to access last semester's archive for the class, and begin watching lectures at your own pace, and working on later problem sets as soon as possible.
With some previous Python experience you may catch up fine, but 2x is a continuation, of course, and so it assumes knowledge of all concepts from 1x. You'd have to be very aware of deadlines and make substantial progress through 1x fairly quickly.
People are here to help though, so go for it.

That info doesn't seem available yet, but considering the start date for the just-begun 6.001x also wasn't available until just a few weeks before it started. They've had two offerings each year so far, so I'm guessing there will be another 6.002x in the fall, but the info about when it starts won't be available until much much later. |

Thanks for the answer. I hope it will be , because after I'm done with the 6001x I want to move on. I also bought the book which covers what is being taught in 6001 and 6002 courses.

Hey guys, I just want to update you all on this subject.
I have recently resisted for the 6.002x course, and even though the course is clearly based on Guttag's book, the deadlines and the problem sets were generously pushed back to a point where I begin to suspect that they're doing it to accommodate the current 6.001x students. The first problem set won't have a deadline till the end of the course and the second problem set is not due till the 3rd of April.
